The architect, who has his office in Genoa, beat out Santiago Calatrava for the commission—he is also designing it for free. The project, a six-lane steel structure reminiscent of a boat, will take 12 months to build; it is expected to be completed by the end of 2019. Image courtesy Renzo Piano Building Workshop.
